Artificial insemination in Spain

Artificial insemination (AI) or intrauterine insemination (IUI) with your partner’s semen is a technique in which sperms, previously selected from a sample, have been placed inside the uterus.

Ovaries are stimulated by the administration of hormones similar to those produced by the woman herself, in order to develop multiple follicles so that high number of oocytes can be obtained and thus increase the chances of success. The cycle is monitored by tests and ultrasound scans in order to verify that both the number and size of the follicles are appropriate.

Artificial insemination tecnhique only needs one follicle. When follicles reach the correct number and size, ovulation is triggered by the administration of another hormone.

On the day of insemination, the andrology laboratory has prepared the semen sample of the partner to obtain a sufficient concentration of motile sperm in order to carry out the insemination.

Insemination is made within the time range in which it is estimated that ovulation will occur. On the day of ovulation the sperm sample is inserted into the uterus for injection, by a procedure very similar to any gynaecological examination.

Artificial insemination is recommended if there are infertility factors, such as impotence, poor sperm quality, ovulatory dysfunction, cervical factor, coital factors or unexplained infertility.

Cooperating Clinics

Costa Blanca extends along the eastern coast of Spain and covers the province of Alicante that has the best all year round temperatures for a speedy recovery for treatment abroad. The World Health Organization considers the climate as one of the most favorable in the world for overall health and well-being. This is why engaging in health tourism in this region is of such a great benefit. Especially, for those looking to undertake a fertility treatment Costa Blanca presents an ideal region making it possible to take advantage of the healing properties of the Mediterranean environment due to presence of salt lakes and relatively low humidity. Additionally, the great presence of negative ions in the air of the Costa Blanca region positively affects both mental health and physical comfort.
